sad change...

when we bought our house
three years ago
the yard was a jungle.

the grass was 2 feet long,
full of brambles and bamboo...
trees as tall as the sun.

we have decided after last winter's
devastating ice storm
that we have no choice...
we have to take down some of the trees...
nine of the trees, to be painfully exact.

this morning,
armed with purple yarn,
i marked them for death...
trees that have been standing longer than
i have been...
and as i put my arms around them to tie the yarn,
i felt sad.

our neighbor,
whose house they will fall on,
should they ever blow ever,
is
very
happy.

There's something so sad about cutting down a tree - or nine. Is there something you'll plant in their place?

oh honey ... that is so sad. i still remember when my dad had to cut down the trees in our backyard, the trees i used to climb into the stars and dream on ... sigh ... but they planted other beautiful things and created a new lovely space. it is the way of life i think, change, the cycle of death leaving space for something new ...

your yard is so beautiful and big and i am sure that you mourn the loss and then you will find new ways to fill it up with your beauty :)

hugs!! xo
