poetry thursday on time for once!

(heeheeheeheehee...this has been edited
to add that heh, today is only wednesday.
it took me an hour to realize that
TODAY IS NOT THURSDAY...
damn. i am still "not on time" but
i'm not changing it now...baha.)

i have not carried this poem
with me
on paper
but i have been carrying it
in my head
this week...
mulling over words,
pondering the choice of adjectives,
being fickle with my
use of commas.

it was written after a hot bath
while skin was still damp
and the scent of vanilla lotion
stayed elusively
in the air.

lemon lime
and powder pink
she holds a poetry reading
for one.

words inescapable...
irreplaceable
trickling down her neck
droplets of prose-
she pauses and reflects
as she poses for each phrase,
as she shuns
and selects
trying on a metaphor,
accepts or
rejects

giving in to the power of rhyme
she bows...
she genuflects
accepting her addiction to the
pursuit
of the elusive
line
seeking the rhythm, seeking the time.

I'm in awe of your poems. Completely. I don't know how you do it. Do you think it's truly an addiction? Beautiful!

Your poem is as lovely as the smell of vanilla lotion. Wonderful!

i love your use of words. i love the colors you use to describe your poetry reading and you got me thinking about how it would feel to have words trickling down my neck (tee hee hee). very cool poem, will be back for more.

"Poetry reading for one..." I like this--such a sweet layering of meaning here.

I love the image of words trickling down the neck; makes poetry writing so sensuous (which of course it often is) but you capture that so nicely.

Hey, thanks for visiting! I love how you wrote a poem about... poetry! :)

I'm a little late with my Thursday reading, and so your posting early makes it all about even!

Anyway, I really like the lining in this poem--very drippy, drip-like, but also very sure and strong. Funny how poems come from such sensuous places, too.
